The Med
UPDATE: Sadly, the COVID outbreak of 2020 has forced The Med to shutter its doors permanently.
Officially named The Mediterranean Restaurant, I don't think it's possible for anyone to have ever visited Boulder and NOT been to "The Med." There are so many reasons for this, let me count some of the ways:
Uno
The Piccata di Pollo: sautéed chicken breast, capers, lemon, thyme butter on a bed of silky smooth mashed potatoes & seasonal vegetables. You can get this dish with rice, but the piccata sauce on those potatoes makes a decadent gravy with its little pops of salt from the capers. Yet another example of a simple classic dish done right.
Due
The outside patio is absolutely enchanting.
Tre
The Med has actually created "summer in a glass" in the form of their succulent White Sangria. While a slight derivation from traditional sangria, it mixes white wine, triple sec, peach puree, apple puree & pear puree for the sweet song of our endless Colorado blue sky days of summer.
Quattro
The Pasta Bolognese starts with hand rolled garganelli and tops it with a classic Italian meat sauce, Grana Padang, nutmeg & a touch of cream. This, like many items in The Med's culinary arsenal is deceptively simple, yet executed to perfection. While I often love spicy food, the luxuriously sweet mouthfeel in the meat sauce has made me yearning this classic dish for 20+ years and counting.
Cinque
A dizzying array of amazing nicely priced Tapas Calientes & Tapas Frias. Please pursue the Happy Hour menu and let your primal brain decide where to eat next.
Sei
Try their smokey wood-fired pizzas topped with classic Italian savory meats and bright, fresh vegetables.
Sette
All of that and more with a great location one block off the Pearl St. walking mall towards the hip west end.
Bottomline (and yes, I realize that's not an Italian number)
The Med has been a solid bet for 25 years, and if you haven't yet been, then check out this quintessential Boulder stalwart where simple absolutely delicious dishes have be made consistently for as long as millennials have been walking the earth.
