Soundtrack of My Life
As a young green-eared kid growing up in the Catskills of Upstate NY, I can vividly remember soundscapes of music filled with symphonic orchestrations, harmonies & songwriting genius spinning off my turntable. My first records including: Revolver and Sgt. Pepper’s, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, and yeah, even Boston’s self-titled album, swept me away with layers of vocal choruses, electrifying guitar leads, atmospheric analog organs & classic rock drumming.
Early on I grew an appreciation for discovering music from anywhere I could find it: a new vinyl record, an 8-track or cassette tape, and especially WDST radio where my friends and I used to walk over to their original downtown Woodstock, NY location that felt more like a friend’s house, then a broadcast station. We’d hangout on their front porch with their old bulldog mascot and request songs to play from the DJs across the glass— indelible memories from another lifetime, and they were wonderful.
As you can imagine, I slowly became a budding musicologist, and pseudo-audiophile to boot— always trying to get my hands on better audio components to reproduce true dynamics & details of the music I was discovering. Decades later, these passions of amazing music & high fidelity drive a creative career with roots informed at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, plus years of experience in audio industrial design, culminated into the first Heinsenfolg design, the Flatiron Series of loudspeakers. The best joy of all, is that I now get to share my love of music with my son, Max, who not only loves music as much as I, but also enjoys playing guitar & creating his own electronic music.
