Lip-Smacking Lemonade

Some of my fondest summer memories as a kid living in the Hudson River Valley were going to the Dutchess County Fair in Rhinebeck, NY. From a wee youngster through my high school years, our family (along with my best friends) would go every summer without fail. The anticipation was palpable as I couldn’t wait to feast on all the agora happening on the sprawling fairgrounds which included: exciting lumberjack competitions, colossal championship farm animals, gorgeous arts & crafts, live music concerts at the Grandstand, etc, etc.

We would scurry around under the hot summer sun for hours looking forward to when it was lemonade-time! This was good old-fashioned lemonade with lemons being squeezed right front of you, then added to big tall cups of ice, water & real cane sugar— perfectly balanced & refreshingly light.

For this updated recipe, I’m taking a tasting note from our Bee Knees Old Fashioned and using honey’s lovely complexity to bring this lemonade to the next level of lip-smack-a-bility. Simply mix together the ingredients below, serve in our 15 oz. Zombie or 12 oz. Old Fashioned glasses filled with lots of cocktail ice & enjoy the summer!

Main Ingredients

Makes about 5-6 ice filled glasses of lemonade.

  • 1/2 Cup (4 oz.) Lemon Juice (about 2 juicy lemons)

  • 1.5 oz. local Honey

  • 1 Tbsp. Cane Sugar

  • 4 Cups Water

  • Garnish with 2-3 mint leaves & lemon slice

How About a Mexican Shandy?

Mix 6 oz. Lemonade with 6 oz. of Modelo Especial… muy refrescante y delicioso! Serve in our 16 oz. Belgian Tulip Beer Glasses. And hey, if you like your summer drinks nice & cold— throw some cocktail ice in there!
